ELLERSLIE MEDIA RELEASE

17 February 2011

Ellerslie International Flower Show starts to take shape

The first designers are now on site in North Hagley Park and are getting ready for the biggest and best Ellerslie International Flower Show yet.

A record number of gardens will be on display at the 2011 Show and there will be exhibitors from all over the world, including the United Kingdom, Australia and Fiji.

Tickets are available from www.ellerslieflowershow.co.nz, www.ticketek.co.nz, 0800 TICKETEK or any Ticketek outlet (processing fees apply). Show goers can also buy tickets in Christchurch at central city department store Ballantynes or at Christchurch City Council's Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street.

Due to feedback received after last year's Show, tickets will allow the purchaser to attend the Show on any day they wish.
United Kingdom designer to bring sexy back

United Kingdom lecturer and designer Jody Lidgard will wow the Ellerslie crowds with an exhibition garden called Sexy Beast.

Jody worked with award-winning designer Chris Beardshaw on the planting aspect of his gold medal-winning garden at last year's Ellerslie and says he was inspired to return with a garden of his own.

Jody describes his garden as a "fun-filled garden" that celebrates a British film of the same name and lets the plants be the "real stars". Jody's students, William and James Gadd, will also make their first trip to the southern hemisphere with him. The brothers are entering the Solid Energy Emerging Designs – Student Designer of the Year category and will design a garden called Sinuous Simplicity. The garden is described as a small intimate seating area with "a sinuous timber bridge that snakes across the water".
