16   Gardens For the Future - Gestures Against the Wild by Guy Cooper and Gordon Taylor
We all need to make ‘gestures against the wild’ whatever that means, and Cooper and Taylor are showing the way with this collection of gardens.  There are 20 case studies of representative modern gardens, and all are exciting. From the comfort of your armchair you can visit The Getty Garden, Ton der Linden’s ‘natural’ garden in Holland, Fernando Caruncho’s wheat parterre and calm green shapes, or Jacques Wirtz who builds on the great classical gardens of the past. There is a fascinating chapter on ‘healing gardens’. Topher Delaney has specialised in these, attached to hospitals where patients need calm and quiet. Enjoy major modern designers and their gardens. Wonderful book. An ideal gift for budding designers.
