WHAT?S BEEN HAPPENING?:
Waitangi day yesterday, had a few gardeners out, everyone gets keen when we
have a few good days. Murphys law, weather comes good when the kids go back
to school. Annuals are all but finished, still a few Petunias and Marigolds,
everything $1.00. Vege plants still selling well. Everyone has dug a row of
Potatoes by now, it gives some room to plant Leeks, Silverbeet, Cabbage and Cauli
for maturity over winter. We have a good budget grade of shrubs at the moment
(1 litre pot) 3 for $10.00. A new supply of pond plants in stock. Many plants
make for less algae in your pond but shade and filtration are
important. Also in the warm weather ponds tend to go green readily. Best trees
at the moment for colour are the Maplesas they are starting to change. In flower
Eucryphia and Agapanthus are looking blue and white. In potted colour there
are still some Pelargoniums, Fuchsias and Alstromerias dwarf good for pots.
Begonias flamboyant are extra bright just now.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BE DOING?:
Harvesting the vege garden, Tomatoes and Potatoes all ready now. Keep the Corgettes and Cucumbers picked to encourage more fruit. Spray lawns for weeds. It is a good time now while they have a good sized leaf to soak up the spray. Major explosive of bugs and weeds in the heat. Keep everything sprayed and make sure you keep your sprayers named. You can do alot of damage to your garden if you use your weed sprayer on your plants.
Have a good week.
