Newsletter for the week of Wednesday 3rd December 2008
WHATS BEEN HAPPENING?:
Another month gone and one left this year and we haven't really had any
consistant weather yet. The Tomatoes are starting to set fruit, but still
a long way from colouring. There's a few early carrots (baby) ready for
picking and white stone turnips are always quick to mature. The early
seed potatoes are tasting great with the salad picked from the garden.
The first peas are silling the pods and Broad Beans still small, but tastt.
Don't you wish you'd put in an early garden. The best trees in flower
today are the Cornus (dogwood) There's still some late flowering Rhodos
and the Philadelpis (bridal Blossom) will be in full flower for Christmas,
great gift with beautiful perfume. Vege plants are still selling well
as lettuces and cabbage mature, plant again with winter veges. We sell
good sized leek plants in bundles. The main problem with summer planting
are the white butterfly, Derris Dust is used mainly, but there are organicsprays
available, or even put up a barrier such as netting or microclimate cloth.
Time to think about a christmas tree, we have a few live trees, only small,
but great to pot on and you could use it for the next 5 years.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BE DOING?:
Visiting our gift shop is a must, we have too much stock and need you
to buy a gift for the gardening person in your life. We sell vouchers
as well so theres always something to suit everyone. Last of the seed
potatoes, plant now and small seeds have to go in now to have a chance
of maturing.
