WHAT?S BEEN HAPPENING?:

The wind hasn't done us any favours this week, especially the blossom trees and as always the tulips seem to get the wind. Beautiful displays of tulips around Invercargills city plots at the moment. At lest it's warm and things are atarting to dry out. Most people have a row of potatoes up by now and a few tomatoes stanted.Cucumbers have struggled this week, we may need the odd replacement. Corgettes, Pumpkins, Kumi Kumi can go out now if you have a sheltered corner. Seeds are selling well, time to plant Carrots, Parsnips, Beetroot and Radish, don't forgetto buy Diacks own packed seed at $1.99 each. Still planty of vege plants, plant our combo packs of brassica (2 each of Cabbage, Cauliflower and Broccoli) and mixed Lettuce for a continuous supply of vegetables. Lawns have had a copuple of mows, time to look at the weeds problem, identify the weeds and spray accordingly, ask for our advice and hire our lawnboy to do the spraying. Roses are looking lush and starting to bud up, feed with blood and bone and potashand look out for the first bugs especially in sheltered areas. Tomatoes are showing first flowers get them well staked or better still on a string.  Plenty of fertilizer to encourage fruit, once the flowers have set. Too much fertilizer will stretch the plants and have too much growth between trusses.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BE DOING?:

Keep ahead of the weeds, don't let them seed, or you will have 10 times the problem. Keep things well watered, this wind knocks all the soft growth. Fertilize Rhodos and Camellias after flowering, they make new growth now. Most plants appreicate fertilizer at this time of year. Keeps busy and enjoy!
