Herb
of the Week for 8th August
Gnomes without Homes.
Well on this memorable day in history, where we line up the eights and
the games begin, we have our own line up of games to start.
The game of cleaning up the gardens has begun after devastation in the storm
last week.
I can't believe that last week I wrote about how fortunate we were in the
first storm and then wham on the Wednesday it all changed as Mother Nature's
power in the form of an Easterly combined with waterlogged clay soils brought
down over a hundred trees.
The miraculous part was that every gnome and elf seems to have dodged the
falling trees.
We are not sure about the fairies in the Living Magic garden as the fairy
castle has been swamped by a massive rose when the fence blew down.
We must be grateful that everybody was safe and none of the trees fell on
the buildings.
It is emotional to see the devastation in the gardens and to see trees you
planted as seedlings ripped out of the ground.
We need to clean up and reassess the newly created vistas and I am sure
there will be lots of surprises and some reformed gardens emerging from
this natural occurrence.
The day after the storm the birds were flitting around singing their songs
of praise and I saw a tui enjoying the nectar from the aloe flowers.
Mother Nature may take away but given the circle of life there are always
the gifts of nature to enjoy as well.
