Herb of the Week for 18th January
Herbal Holiday Project-A Chamomile Cushion
The school holidays are well underway now and a great activity to do with
your kids is to create a special little area in the garden that can be an
oasis to escape to for some time out-kids or parents.
One of the loveliest additions to any area is a little chamomile creation. A chamomile lawn is beyond most people but a little chamomile seat is easy to do and will give a sense of calmness to all those who sit upon it.
I made two chamomile seats for our fairy garden just before Christmas and you can see it in the background of the photo with a teddy reclining on the soft cushion of green chamomile leaves.
I recycled a wooden planter box by filling it with potting mix and transplanting plugs of Roman chamomile from another area of the garden.
I kept it watered until it was established and now it is ready to be sat upon in just over three weeks.
If you don't have Roman chamomile in your garden you will need to pop down to your local garden centre and buy a good lush plant or two and split it up on planting.
Do not buy German chamomile as this is an upright annual which is the one you want for tea but it will not make a chamomile cushion.
When Roman chamomile is stood on or sat on the leaves release a lovely apple scent which is calming and relaxing.
Perfect to sit on while fairy spotting or looking for butterflies or of course to sit on while reading a book.
Happy creating and happy relaxing on your own chamomile cushion.
