Yates Champ DP Copper Fungicide

Yates Product of the Month for July 2008 is Champ DP, the low toxic copper fungicide that controls a
wide range of fungal problems on fruit and vegetables.

Yates Champ DP is a relatively new form of copper fungicide that is economical to use, with one 100g
pack making up to 100 litres of spray. The fine blue particles mix readily with water so that they provide
even coverage and stick easily to plant material.

Plant diseases are always looking for new plants to infect so they send millions of minute spores into
the atmosphere. If the right type of spore lands on the appropriate plant variety when conditions are
favourable for disease development, the disease rapidly takes off.

Copper fungicides work as protectants. This means that they form a very fine layer of copper over the
plant that prevents the fungal spores from being able to lock into the leaf. It's easy to understand how
important it is to have good fungicide coverage: holes in the protective layer allow entry of the disease.

Champ DP is described as having 'a broad spectrum of application', which means it can be used to
treat a long list of plant problems, including:
anthracnose, cane wilt, cane spot, spur blight, melanose, verrucosis, brown rot, leaf spot, downy
mildew, septoria spot, brown spot, black spot, leafcurl, shot hole, bladder plum, bacterial blast,
bacterial blight, angular leafspot, early and late blight, bacterial speck and bacterial spot.
Because of its low toxicity, Champ DP has no withholding period. Fruit and vegetables can be washed
and eaten immediately after spraying.

Champ DP fungicide can be applied at this time of year to provide effective dormant season control of
fungal diseases on stone fruit and pip fruit.
