Week 1: January Gardening

Flowers to sow in January – Feverfew
This flower is well worth growing, not just because of its mound of attractive, finely cut leaves dotted with daisies flowers, but because it’s renowned for providing natural relief from headaches and fever.

Vegies to sow in January – Dwarf Beans
Sow beans this month while there’s still plenty of time for them to develop an autumn crop. Yates Tendergreen will continue producing fresh, tasty beans until late in the season and Yates Freezer Slims is another long-cropping variety that keeps well on the plant, allowing the pods to be harvested in batches.

No dig gardens are great because they’re less work – and you can make one just about anywhere! No-dig gardens have even been created on top of concreted patches or on an existing lawn. Just remember, if you are building your bed on concrete, you’ll need a layer of sticks or other coarse material on the base to ensure that the water can drain away.
